INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

1989-1998

Experience

I began my work as Geologist Engineer in September 1989 at the Lupoaia Quarry, that was one of the largest lignite quarries in Romania, with manpower of more than 2,500 workers.

During 10 years, I gradually progressed in the hierarchy, from simple Geologist Engineer to the Head of Geological Department of the open mining of Lupoaia, composed of 5 engineers (one geologist and four land and chartered surveyors) and two groups respectively constituted by 20 and 45 workmen and technical assistants.

Working in industry enabled me to acquire a huge experience regarding to:

  • WORKFORCE MANAGEMENT : practically organizing the team according to the personal specificity and competences of each person, supervising if every steps of the final work is correctly achieved with respect to specific safety, and initiating a system of encouragements and rewards for the peoples who accomplished very difficult works;

  • MANAGEMENT OF THE MINING : as I significantly contributed to major decisions during the time when I was involved in the Direction.

My concrete work was :

  • to manage the reserves available in order to obtain a maximum output according to the layers of lignite and their calorific value. It is to mention that the decision of selective exploitation of each layer of lignite aimed at obtaining a mixture of the various lignite layers whose the calorific value was acceptable by the thermo-electric power stations.

  • to plan and organize the system of water drainage after precipitations and snow melt, from theworking areas towards outside of the quarry. To do that, I was directly responsible for the two teams respectively composed of 20 and 45 persons (technicians and workers). The first team was specialized in performing drillings and systematic samplings of lignite layers in order to estimate geometry and caloric value of each lignite layer, necessary to manage the organization of the mining.The second team that I supervised simultaneously focused on the drainage of waters outside of the quarry. My responsibility on the second team concentrated in:
  • organizing working groups in three time periods/24h;
  • managing the accomplishment of the drainage system by paying attention to the stock of the necessary tools (planning of repairs, contact with the suppliers, new purchases, etc.) and monitoring of their correct use.
